This morning, we boarded Sea Cloud II’s tenders to reach Hvar, where our local guides introduced us to the many treasures of this beautiful seaside town.
We started in the Franciscan Monastery, certainly one of the best kept secrets of the Croatian coast, where an ancient cypress tree has witnessed hundreds of years of history. This monastery holds veritable treasures, but none compared to the painting of the Last Supper. This magnificent work, whose painter remains unknown, draws the viewer into the scene. Truly, no visit to Hvar would be complete without the peace and restfulness which comes with visiting this monastery.
Afterward, we visited Hvar Arsenal, with echoes of old times under Venetian rule, and the theater situated above it, which was built in the early 1600s. After some free time exploring the city’s charming alleyways, or perhaps bathing in the Mediterranean from one of the town’s small yet charming beaches, we returned to Sea Cloud II for a lovely buffet lunch.
The afternoon was spent at sea, and Sea Cloud II unfurled her sails one last time. With one last perfect sunset colouring the decks in warm shades of red and auburn, we headed to Dubrovnik, our final destination.
