The forest is very active early, which is why we went to explore Iquitos Caño at six o’clock! The place is a beautiful branch from the main river that is surrounded by pioneer vegetation; among the main species are Cecropia trees, which serve as food for different animals. Birds love the area and our local guides know this, and with their amazing sight we spotted over 20 different species! An amazing start for an amazing day!

We returned to the ship to get some energy for our second visit—breakfast and we were ready for the Amazon Natural Reserve. This is a private area that due to its richness was named a natural reserve by the Peruvian government. The place is a primary forest. Vegetation is unbelievable and the main attraction of the place is a system of suspension bridges that covers a big area of the trail. We explored the place from not only our perspective, but from the perspective of birds and monkeys as well, from the canopy above the forest! We covered almost three miles on our exploration! We were ready for lunch!

In the afternoon we visited Nauta Caño. The visit couldn’t have been better from beginning to end! We saw squirrel and silver back tamarillo monkeys, birds, dolphins, and even sloths!

The adventure was not over yet. During our cocktail time we witnessed a beautiful orange full moon raising—a perfect time for a night walk! After dinner we left the ship in order to explore the area and it was an amazing way to visit the Amazon! We heard frogs and birds, and we found insects of all colors, sizes, and shapes! We enjoyed of the moon like you couldn’t do in other place!
