The moon said good bye just when the sun showed up. We were all geared up ready to load the skiff. Today we had the opportunity to hike in another Varzea forest before breakfast.

The different birds’ calls gave us the welcome to the trail. Tall majestic trees stood all mighty as guarding the forest. A roadside hawk gave the alert to the rest of the forest dwellers that we were going in. We entered looking everywhere for wildlife.

We slowly walked through the vast forest. Black tailed tytiras, great antshrike, varcea shiffornis and several barbets would break the silence with their songs. We were delighted as the birds began to come closer for us to see them. Beside birds, we also spotted different species of tree frogs, leaf litters frogs and anoles. The forest had so much to show us.

We return for breakfast and started cruising for our last destination of our voyage, the Yarapa River. It was a gentle cruise and several gray dolphins were spotted fishing together with the pink dolphins. Ospreys were also easily seen in action fishing along the river bank.

We soon arrived close to Yarapa River. We had enough time before the skiff rides so we went and visited Puerto Miguel Community. This village is well known for the art craft. The ladies of the village had displayed the beautiful designs of basket, plates and masks. It was so hard to pick, beauty was well displayed in paintings too.

Later in the afternoon, we loaded the skiff for our last exploration. The lush green color of the forest along the river allowed us to spot gorgeous birds. A wholly monkey came to the river edge to spy on us. Soon a troop of squirrel monkeys join the party too.

There was so much to see. We just didn’t want to end our exploration. Our seven days here in the Upper Amazon had been loaded with great experiences, life changing experiences!
