We are travelling on the western side of the Galapagos archipelago. Here you find yourself surrounded by large shield shaped volcanoes with lava flows all around. Here you are surrounded by active volcanoes that have been continuously shaping this landscape.

It seems a perfect morning announcing the beginning of an amazing day! The sea birds were flying over the ocean searching for their early meals, the Officers and Naturalists on the watch all the time. As we navigated, we started to see the massive volcanoes. What a great beginning!

By 0930 in the morning we reached Punta Vicente Roca on Isabela Island. Here, we boarded our fleet of Zodiacs to explore the shore and its amazing cliffs. The place is home to Blue footed boobies Galápagos penguins, flightless cormorants and many other birds. At the end of the Zodiac ride we got ready for snorkeling in the cove at Punta Vicente Roca. This cove is a world full of different life forms. There are many Pacific green sea turtles! The place looks like a parking lot for these reptiles.

During the afternoon outing we landed on Fernandina Island. This island with black lava is the youngest in the region. It is covered by vast lava flows and it is an active volcano whose last eruption took place in April 2009 for about three weeks. Fernandina Island has a vast colony of marine iguanas and sea lions.

Marine iguanas formed large groups along the rocky shore. Our outing on Fernandina was breathtaking due to the unique features of the island, such as a vast lava flows, Sally Light Foot crabs, and the landscape of an entirely new island.

At the end we celebrated our day with a drink in hand at sunset.
