We spent our second day at the western part of the Galapagos Archipelago. Isabela Island, which is formed out of six volcanoes and looks like a sea horse, was offering a great morning and mild weather conditions. We started the day at Urbina Bay, located at the base of Alcedo Volcano. After a wet landing we started our walk and soon encountered Alcedo giant tortoises. It was a nice surprise to observe them so close. Soon after we saw Galápagos land iguanas. Our group then enjoyed a nice long hike which covered the area that was uplifted in 1954.
In the afternoon the National Geographic Islander was repositioned towards Tagus Cove. We offered two rounds of kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, as well as deep water snorkeling, a Zodiac ride along the coastal area and an invigorating hike to the lower cone of Tagus Cove. We enjoyed every minute and came very close to amazingly tame animals.
