Isabela Island is the largest of the Galapagos Islands with more landmass than all the other islands combined. Today we visited Urbina Bay in the morning where after landing on a dark sandy beach we walked inland where land iguanas were easily spotted along the trail. Land iguanas need sunlight to warm up and the path offers the most amount of sunlight as is devoid of vegetation. We found skeletons of goats that had been eradicated along with giant tortoise bones. Some of the guests went for the longer walk and were able to see coral heads exposed to the sunlight as the proof of the 1954 uplift.
In the afternoon, we visited Tagus Cove where we were able to kayak, paddleboard, snorkel, walk up a hill and take a zodiac ride along the shore.
