Isabela Island is not only the biggest island of the archipelago, but also a very active volcanic site. Our visit to Punta Vicente Roca on the northern part of the island started with a Zodiac ride along the coast, just beside a volcanic cliff. Lava and tuff formations form a bay where marine turtles, penguins, and flightless cormorants can be seen from the Zodiac or while snorkeling. Our biggest surprise was finding sunfish really close to the Zodiac.
Punta Espinosa is located on Fernandina Island, the youngest and most western island of the Galapagos. It is the perfect spot for walking through the biggest colony of marine iguanas on the islands. At this time of the year, the iguanas are nesting in every spot on the beach. Sea lions sleeping on the coast and the blue color of the ocean make it the perfect place for great pictures.
