Today we visited two areas of Isabela, the largest island of the Galapagos. To start our day, we hiked to an uplifted area containing a manzanillo and palo santo forest where we saw our first giant tortoise of the week in the wild. We also spotted several land iguanas, finches, warblers and mockingbirds. At the end of our active hike, we relaxed on a nearby beach, enjoyed the landscape, and had many photographic opportunities. On our return to National Geographic Islander, some guests jumped out into the waters of Urbina Bay for a swim.
After lunch, we sailed north to Tagus Cove and explored the underwater biodiversity of this rich area either on kayaks or paddleboards. The visibility in the water was wonderful, and we were able to clearly observe sea turtles and even marine iguanas feeding underwater! To wrap up our great day we took Zodiac rides along the cost, taking in the beautiful landscape of this spectacular location.
