We began the day cruising picturesque Lemaire Channel early in the morning, accompanied by soft light and several humpback whales. Initially, our plan was to visit Port Charcot, but we encountered a barrier of massive icebergs blocking the entrance. We shifted our focus to the Yalour Islands, marking the farthest point south of our journey.
In the Yalours, we explored by Zodiac, navigating through fog-covered islands. Highlights included resting Weddell seals, Adélie and gentoo penguins, and two humpback whales logging on the surface among the brash ice.
Our afternoon brought us back north to Pleneau Island for hiking, Zodiac cruising, and more humpbacks. As the day came to a close, we returned through the Lemaire Channel where we were treated to a final wildlife sighting: a lone male killer whale gliding through the still waters. The combination of breathtaking ice, abundant wildlife, and more typical Antarctic conditions made for a memorable and fulfilling day.
