What a fantastic start to a fantastic itinerary! Today was our first day of this incredible coastal Norway and Svalbard itinerary and it was absolutely delightful! We spent the day with the ship nestled in the calm waters of Nordfjord, just outside the small town of Loen. From here guests departed on one of two morning activities – either a hiking tour up to Briksdal Glacier or a boat tour below the Kjenndal Glacier.
A mix of sun and clouds above us set the scene for dramatic views from our afternoon excursion on the Loen Skylift. This cable car climbs an astonishing 1100m with a wonderfully smooth ride. It is one of the steepest cable cars in the world, and the views from the top make our substantial ship look like a mere spec from above. But never you fear, when we returned our beautiful National Geographic Resolution was waiting with her splendid crew welcoming us onboard for our oh so important captain’s welcome dinner.
