A spectacular sunrise painted the sky in pink and orange hues. We sailed south, through the calm waters of the Gulf of California. Our destination for the morning was Los Islotes. This place is famous for being the southernmost colony for California sea lions in the gulf. With the nice morning light and very pleasant weather, we cruised around the volcanic rocks on our inflatable boats to take a closer look at the interesting and funny animals. We saw the young sea lions showing special curiosity toward us, and particularly toward the bubbles left behind by our outboard motors.
Later in the morning, we had the wonderful opportunity to go snorkeling with the sea lions. The water was refreshing and with good visibility. It took a little while to see the first sea lions, but in a matter of minutes, several of them got really close to us. They seemed to enjoy our presence. Being highly intelligent animals, they are playful and clearly enjoy the interaction that we have with them.
We spent the afternoon in a majestic beach called Bahia Bonanza. The long beach is white and it separates the blue water from the desert. Paddleboards and kayaks were available to explore the shoreline for a last time. Many of us decided to walk through the desert or stroll peacefully along the beach.
