Under a rose-colored sky, we began our day alongside Los Islotes, a rocky island near La Paz. This area is known for the high number of endemic and enchanting creatures that grace its shores, such as yellow-footed gulls, California sea lions, and a variety of whales and dolphins. Before brunch, we took a deep dive into the world of birds with a talk from naturalist Shayne Sanders. We learned that green herons bait fish by tossing morsels of food in the water. The herons wait, watch, and then lunge. Talk about innovation!
The festivities continued on shore as we enjoyed an afternoon exploring the town of La Paz. We walked through the artistic atmosphere of the Malecon and visited a cathedral. The day concluded with a memorable Mexican fiesta at a picturesque ranch with horses, goats, cows, ostriches, and an assortment of other farm animals, all of which welcomed our affection. The night concluded with opera, a world class pianist, a beautiful dance performance, and several sing-alongs. We earned our sleep, and we returned to National Geographic Venture with plenty of stories to swap and share.
