What an incredible and gorgeous day aboard the National Geographic Sea Bird! Our morning was filled with bouts of laughter while observing the California sea lions in their underwater habitat. The islands of Los Islotes are the southernmost breeding colony of the California sea lion, providing easy access to the water’s edge, productive hunting grounds, and protection from their primary predators (killer whales and great white sharks). This afternoon, we found ourselves enjoying the sun, sand, and sea with long walks along the shore at Playa Bonanza, as well as some kayaking in the bay and hikes among the Cardon cacti. A beach barbecue accompanied by a sunset and s’mores concluded this very special and memorable Monday.
