The gray whales in Magdalena Bay were spectacular today: multiple pairs of mothers and calves spotted, several instances of breeching seen, and continuous spy hopping of territorially conscious males. On land we observed a coyote in the dunes and herons and egrets on shore, all hunting for the day’s sustenance.

Now aboard for the night, the buzz of a remarkable day of exploration fills the decks and the common spaces aboard National Geographic Quest. Everyone seems eager to recount their experiences with the person beside them. Such instances mean quite a bit to a naturalist, as it signifies a day well spent.
