Today, guests of National Geographic Orion visited the raised coral atoll island of Makatea. In the morning, we took a hike to experience the wild island with its fascinating history of phosphate mining. Then we had a glorious time walking into a lush forest to go down a steep staircase into a hidden grotto for swimming! The grotto was filled with stalactites descending towards us as we swam through the cool and refreshing water. It was an incredible day!
