An expedition is never over until it’s over: Today Captain Martin and Expedition Leader Jon pulled off yet another one of those magic tricks that makes this kind of adventure so special to be a part of. We sailed this morning into Nassuttooq (Nordre Stromfjord) located some 40 miles north of Sisimiut. It’s an area that has never been visited before by an expedition vessel. The Captain and Ice Pilot Finn made a discovery while charting a tantalizing bay: A mighty terminal moraine leapt out from a 300 meters depth C just over 30m in a couple ship-lengths—evidence that the ancient forces that carved this fjord can still test the most experienced explorers.
We packed in as much as we could into our final day: Kayaks (or is it qajaqs?), polar plunges, Zodiac cruises, hikes, beachcombs, cocktails, and Chef’s tables, all with stunning Greenland as our backdrop. A final recap was had, with a Greenlandic lullaby by Aleqa Hammond honoring the beautiful sea angel pteropod sea slugs that guided us on our journey.
What a voyage, and we cannot wait for the next—the clock is Nassuttooq-ing down until we can visit wild Greenland once again.
