Today we had a great opportunity to explore one of the few remnants of primary forest left, perhaps, in the world!
Our morning outing took us to a privately-own property that has been protected for generations from logging and illegal trading; this generated a safe environment for species of trees that are generally no longer found in the area due to the above reasons.
Our adventure took us first through a man-made lagoon within the property, where guests had the chance to paddle their way across onboard local canoe-type catamarans. The forest walk was simply great, and the feeling of being among giants was very special. Part of the walk took us over suspension bridges, and the view of the forest from above was simply terrific!
Our afternoon was also quite remarkable, as we experienced a skiff ride on a narrow creek known as Nauta Caño. Lots of new bird species were spotted by our eagle-eyed local naturalists, who were showing off their remarkable abilities to see small animals far away and among the dense greenery of the forest.
We finished our day with an after dinner outing to enjoy the forest at night. It turned out to be quite an adventure to do a landing, but we managed to accomplish the goal, and our guests got to feel what it is like to be in complete darkness, knowing that you were the one being watched…
