This morning National Geographic Islander II anchored at North Channel, where we had a unique view of North Seymour Island and South Seymour Island (also known as Baltra), which was created by uplifted ocean floor.
At sunrise we started with a hike around North Seymour to search for wildlife. Amid the arid vegetation, we saw blue-footed boobies, frigatebirds, noddy terns, land iguanas, and swallow-tailed gulls (the only nocturnal gull).
In the afternoon, we navigated for two hours to Rábida island. Here we had our first snorkeling activity, a perfect introduction of the marine world in the Galapagos Islands. Finally, we ended our day with a stroll over an iron-oxide beach to a saltwater lagoon where we saw a beautiful flamboyance of flamingos. Some individuals were incubating their eggs.
