National Geographic Quest woke up in the calm waters of the Golfo Dulce on the Osa Peninsula. We disembarked in a place called Paya Blanca and began the adventures prepared for us today. We divided into groups to visit different projects run by local families making a difference in their community.

Some guests visited the gold panning project. Juan and Rosa decided to protect their land and began to showcase how they used to mine for gold. This activity is paired with a visit to a sugar mill, where a family makes artisanal sugar. They also demonstrate how they made it historically.

Other guests visited the heart of palm project, where two women harvest heart of palm. They prepared delicious recipes for us. We also visited the chocolate farm, where we learned about chocolate and various fruit crops.

Finally, Merlin and his family transformed an old cattle farm into a truly remarkable nature reserve. Guests hiked and observed many different birds, monkeys, sloths, and more.
