On this day we explored the furthest points of Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. The places we visited are spectacular! This flooded jungle has its own mirror because the water that flows here is black and still and the clouds and trees reflected on the black still water produce a mirror effect. This jungle is very productive there is a lot of fruiting trees which produce food for fish and the amount of fish of the area sustains an enormous population of fish eating birds such as cormorants, egrets, king fishers, heron and many more.
Today we also had breakfast in the jungle! In order to explore better this forest we packed our breakfast and took it on board the skiffs to have it in the visitor site during a stop underneath some big trees! After breakfast we had some time left and we wanted to really experience the amazon rainforest. So, we stopped in the middle of a large black water lagoon and jumped in these refreshing waters that are home to pink river dolphins. It was a unique experience having o pod of dolphins swimming and spouting close to us!
In the afternoon we were back at Dorado River for our second exploration which would include the giant lily pads and many other surprises along the way. We had monkeys, black collared hawks, local fishermen and another beautiful sunset. This jungle never ceases to amaze me. There is always something special on each tree. This time those ones were the three toed sloths.
