Today’s Amazon exploration bought us to a place of magic: the Pacaya River. Our adventure began early in order to experience the wonders nature. As we started going up the river, the magnificence of the rain forest was evident in a natural symphony as birds were singing all around us. The sighting of different kinds of birds was out of this world. Among the most iconic was definitely the Jabiru, which was found perching on trees and sometimes flying around us.
Further up the stream, we found charapa turtles on the different river trunks that were taking advantage of the morning sun in order to regulate their body temperature, but they were as timid as we expected. The presence of cocoi herons along the riverside gave us a splendid opportunity for nature photography. Once we were in the heart of the forest, a tree had the perfect natural decoration as it was completely covered with neotropic cormorants.
Once we reached a remarkable place up the river, it was time to enjoy a delightful breakfast being surrounded by Mother Nature. Once the activity was over, we got everything ready in order to witness one of the forest’s most iconic birds that has ever existed: the Hoatzin. We found several individuals perching on a few trees, and as they cannot fly long, it was easy to spot them perching on the branches and twigs all around the area.
Once we finished with the morning visit, we returned to Delfin II in order to get ready for the afternoon exploration. Our Amazon experience was different in the afternoon, and the best way to begin our journey was to travel deep into the forest in order to go swimming in the Amazon’s waters. The presence of pink and grey dolphins was an awe-inspiring swimming moment. On our way back to Delfin II the presence of squirrel monkeys, monk-saki monkeys, and howler monkeys was something that will be hard to forget. At the end of our exploration, we enjoyed a magical sunset that was perfect for photographing. Today was a magical experience that will be kept deep in our memories.
