The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is the biggest protected in Peru. Today, we had the opportunity to explore the section of the Pacaya River.  We had unique sightings of birds and mammals.  Our exploration included having a well-deserved breakfast in the middle of the river and we could leave this paradise without taking the “Piranha Plunge” in the black waters of Yanayacu Lagoon. As we swam, pink dolphin also participated with our joy.

For the afternoon, we returned to Dorado River. A slight rain was granted to us while our naturalist explained about the importance of the rain fall in the area. As we explored the tributaries that feeds this river, giant water lilies were sighted. Some of them were blooming. Photographers didn’t hesitate in taking great pictures of them.

We had one of the most spectacular sunset followed by the sky covered with big flocks of sand colored nighthawks. It was a lovely way to finish our day exploring the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.
