Today our expedition focused on a fascinating area of the Peruvian Upper Amazon. Early in the morning we visited Pahuachiro Creek, a great place where we found several species of birds, including woodpeckers, tatairas, swallows and hawks. After breakfast, we went to Casual Trail to hike along an incredible trail full of wildlife. The exuberance of the Amazon was evident here, as we found species of reptiles, amphibians, night-owl monkeys and insects. We also learned about the incredible vegetation and their adaptations to survive in the Amazon jungle. Then we went back for lunch, and in the afternoon, I hosted a workshop to improve our iphone photography by using some practical tools that all of our guests found very useful.
Later, we boarded our skiffs to explore Piraña Caño. The ride was amazing, as we found a hawk feeding and a huge troop of squirrel monkeys moving over the canopy. However, the best part of the ride for everyone was at the end of the visit, when we stopped to enjoy the sunset on a small island of vegetation where literally thousands of birds come back to rest at night. The exhilarating experience of being surround by these massive flocks is unforgettable, and was a great finale for a fantastic day on board Delfin II.
