The Argentinean Base Brown was our first destination this morning for hiking and a zodiac cruise. Located in beautiful Paradise Bay, this base was originally built for naval purposes and over the years has been transformed into a scientific base and a popular destination for ships visiting Antarctica. The hike to the top of the hill offered a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. Guests were treated to wildlife and an up close views of a tidewater glacier during the zodiac cruise.
During the afternoon we visited more of the Antarctic human occupants at the British base of Port Lockroy. Originally used for whaling and secret military purposes, this base has been converted into a historic museum and gift shop surrounded by plenty of friendly penguins and beautiful mountains. In addition, we visited the Gentoo penguin colony and a whalebone skeleton at Jougla Point.
In traditional fashion, we rounded out our evening happy hour and recap with entertaining presentations by Tom Ritchie, Adam Cropp and our Expedition Leader Lucho Verdesoto. Onward for another adventure in Antarctica.
