We woke up this morning in Petersburg, Alaska, a small and beautiful fishing town. It was founded close to the LeConte Glacier so that the ice could be used to keep the fish preserved. Most of the residents are still involved with the fishing industry. We spent the day exploring the town and surrounding area through hiking, Zodiac cruises, bike riding, and strolling through town.
After a full day of enjoying Petersburg, one of the local guides came aboard to tell us about Tlingit culture and history. Dinner was an amazing crab and rib feast — a very fitting dinner after spending the day in a town built by the seafood industry. The day ended with a fascinating presentation about geology and the history of Alaska.
