Today guests aboard National Geographic Venture enjoyed some morning coffee while the ship docked into the small Southeast Alaskan fishing town of Petersburg. Today presented the first opportunity for guests to explore a muskeg up close with several different tour options. On the Haa Aani Cultural Tour we learned about the history and life of the Tlingit people; guests on the Ravens Roost hike learned about life in Petersburg and explored a beautiful muskeg. Some guests explored Petersburg with bike rides, while many guests also opted to walk around town and take in the Norwegian influence.

This evening we enjoyed cocktail hour and welcomed a special guest, Andy Szabo from the Alaskan Whale Foundation, who gave a talk on the current trends and research on humpback and gray whales in Southeast Alaska. Then dinner was served: all-you-can-eat Dungeness and king crab fest, with a dessert of key lime pie, and an after-dinner presentation by the underseas team. It was a great day to be in Southeast Alaska.
