From sunrise to sunset, it was a quintessential Alaskan day filled with spectacular scenery and amazing wildlife. This morning’s sunrise at 4:30 a.m. lit up the majestic Fairweather Range which was visible from the waterline on up to the top of the 14,000-foot peaks. Our morning adventure offered hiking along the tidal flats and kayaking the glassy waters at Port Althorp, located on the northern tip of Chichagof Island.

After lunch, we relocated a short distance to the Inian Islands. We cruised in our expedition landing crafts around the islands, which are exposed to the Pacific Ocean. Large tidal flushes, flowing in and out of Icy Strait, happen twice per day and create a conveyor belt of food for the megafauna such as humpback whales and sea lions. What a perfect day in Alaska. Tomorrow we will continue our adventure.
