After a late-night crossing of the Arctic Circle, guests aboard National Geographic Explorer enjoyed a well-earned lazy morning. We ate a late breakfast and then repositioned into Rauðanes, home to towering, columnar basalt structures and seabird colonies. To explore the spectacular coastline, we set out in Zodiacs, navigating among geological formations such as caves and arches. The shore was filled with birds. We spotted waders and puffins, even kittiwakes on the cliffs, and some sharp-eyed guests were treated to views of gyrfalcon. After the morning’s excitement, we made our way down the east coast to Seyðisfjörður for a late evening ashore in town.
