After a very busy, action-packed day in Santorini yesterday, we enjoy the opportunity to unwind and relax on board Sea Cloud as we sail north towards Piraeus. With great winds throughout the day, the weather is perfect for sailing and Sea Cloud proudly displays her beauty with her sails aloft. National Geographic expert Katy Croff Bell gives her final lecture on board on underwater exploration and archaeology, followed by an oceanographic overview of the Mediterranean by her husband Rich.
It’s a relaxing afternoon on board, and following the delicious homemade ice cream during tea time, we watch the ship’s crew “hit the rig” for the last time as they take the sails down in preparation for an evening stop at the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion.
As we enjoy the beautiful light beaming through the clouds at the Temple of Poseidon, guests enjoy their final cocktail hour on board with Captain Pushkarev joining us at the bar.
Throughout the day, several guests have contributed a set of photographs from the previous week to photographic instructor Max Seigal, who assembles a slideshow for our last night on board. After yet another extravagant meal in the dining room, everyone makes their way to the lido deck for their last cocktails and a chance to watch the farewell slideshow. It’s a great opportunity to see the trip through the eyes of our fellow travelers, and very interesting to see how they’ve photographed the world around us in their own unique way.
Just as we are pulling into Piraeus, the near-full moon rises above the city for a spectacular display and one last opportunity to get some wonderful night photos before the end of the trip.
