This morning, we awoke to rain, fog, and wind. After a late breakfast, we began a day of presentations.
First up, we had an insightful and educational presentation from National Geographic photographer Jeff Mauitzen on “Light and Landscapes: Creative & Technical Advice to Improve Your Photography.” We are lucky to have such a great photographer and tutor on board to help us learn how to capture great images! Right after, Marylou presented “Climate of Hope,” a presentation about climate change.
After lunch, we were called together by assistant expedition leader Adrienne for an initial briefing to provide us with disembarkation information. Afterward, Marylou guided groups on the Endurance Art Tour to learn about the incredible curated art on board.
In the afternoon, Eduardo gave us an insightful introduction to the penguins and other birds of Macquarie and the New Zealand Sub-Antarctic Islands, with instruction on which species to keep an eye out for.
As the day wore on, more and more seabirds began to fly around the ship! During dinner, we looked to the portside and saw Campbell Island growing closer. As we rounded the corner, we moved into Perseverance Harbor and hunkered down for the night.
