Today we explored San Cristobal Island, one of the oldest in the archipelago and where the political capital of the Galápagos is found. We started our activities with an invigorating hike along the trail left by an old creek. As we reached the cliffs we were amazed to find some red-footed boobies nesting while others were flying above our heads. The colors of the green vegetation against the contrast of the volcanic lava created a very unique landscape.

As we climbed down the creek we returned to the shore for some water activities such as swimming, kayaking, and for our younger explorers, Zodiac driving lessons, and it was a lot of fun. Once we all returned aboard we headed to the western realm of San Cristobal and went snorkeling in deep waters along the cliffs of a cinder cone better known as “Leon Dormido,” and also known as “Kicker Rock.” There we encountered a lot of juveniles, black-tipped sharks, green sea turtles and some of our guests even saw a scalloped hammerhead shark in the area.

After this unique experience we returned to our ship and went sailing along the coast of “Leon Dormido” during a very colorful sunset, which was a wonderful way to end our day in the enchanted islands.
