Our expedition continues! Today, we are visiting the easternmost place in the Galapagos. San Cristobal Island gives us a mixture of feelings and thoughts about being in an ancient place where sea lions, seabirds and people can share a beautiful beach surrounded by rocky cliffs and blue water.

In the morning, we started exploring a small offshore island which is home to a variety of seabirds and many sea lions. The water that surrounds this little rocky speck is turquoise and it is dotted with schools of yellow-tailed mullet fish. Moments after landing at the beach, we started to climb the slopes of this magnificent volcanic landscape.

Here, you can see basaltic lava and volcanic ash forming layers. As we explored the place, we encountered many types of small plants and small reptiles such as lizards. These animals and plants can tolerate the prolonged droughts typical to this region.

The Galápagos Islands also include a large marine reserve considered to be among the largest in the world. You enter the blue waters and you are part of a different world. You are surrounded by many fish of different sizes and colors. In addition to reef fish, we are lucky to have close encounters with sea lions, Galápagos sharks, scalloped hammerheads and sea turtles!

We had a great time exploring these two islands.
