A group of brave and devoted photographers and naturalists made it to San Esteban Island this morning to contemplate a beautiful sunrise in oranges, reds, and pinks. Others set out for hikes at a more “civilized” time — 7 a.m. Some of us observed spiny-tailed iguanas, and everybody enjoyed a delightful assortment of desert plants, including an endemic cactus, and awesome scenery.
In the afternoon, National Geographic Venture sailed south of the Midriff region searching for marine mammals and encountered groups of common dolphins traveling and bow-riding. In this way we discovered some of the biological treasures of the Gulf of California.
