Sunrise saw us in the skiffs in a small lake surrounded by birds. Flocks of vibrant yellow and black colored blackbirds filled the reeds, while a beautiful black and white flycatcher flitted about. Squadrons of parakeets chattered as they flew overhead and plovers skittered on the sand bars. A massive Jabiru stork impressed us as it searched for fish. And in the lagoon numerous pink dolphins were feeding. Soon, we returned to the Delfin II for breakfast and enjoyed gray dolphins all around our “home.”

In the middle of the day, we repositioned to the Amazon and were amazed at the volume of water moving through. A massive rainstorm had perfect timing as it ended just in time for our afternoon excursion to Puerto Miguel. Here, we had two main attractions, giant water lilies and an amazing array of handicrafts. Many flowers were blooming at the giant lily pads, and the sun blazing on them was perfect for photos. The diversity and quality of handicrafts here are the best, and many of us supported the local economy. On our way back, we enjoyed watching a group of kids playing in the mud after the heavy rain. They had made a slide out of the bank and were sliding down headfirst into the river. Such fun!

We ended the day in the skiffs surrounded by pink dolphins, followed by a class on how to make a drink we have been enjoying all week, Pisco sour.
