A warm breeze and breaching mother and calf humpback whales greeted guests aboard National Geographic Venture this morning as we cruised south along the Baja California coast. Multiple escort groups of a single male with a female and calf were observed as we stood on the bow with coffee in hand before breakfast even began. It was a great start to the day!
We continued cruising throughout the morning until we reached our afternoon destination of San Jose del Cabo. After lunch, guests disembarked for exploration of Estero San Jose del Cabo and the local shops in town. Meanwhile, the dive team headed into open waters to search for pelagic fish.
Guests who chose to explore the bird sanctuary were greeted with sights of the endemic Belding’s yellowthroat and the gray thrasher! These birds are only found in the southern portion of Baja California, and it was exciting to witness them! Other guests chose to explore the town and local shops. They enjoyed local gelato, a delicious treat. Guests returned to the ship for cocktail hour and daily recaps, including a precap on night photography for tomorrow’s activities. As the night came to an end, we continued our remarkable journey!
