It is Christmas Day in the Sea of Cortes, and National Geographic Venture has arrived at our destination off the west side of San Jose Island. This large island, just off the peninsula and roughly halfway between Loreto and La Paz, is where all our Christmas Day activities will take place. Right after a leisurely breakfast, the Zodiac fleet took us ashore at the old “Salt Works” area. A long, beautiful beach was ours to explore at our own pace, or guests could opt for a guided walk with a naturalist. There was also a longer hike up a hillside for an overview of the area and the chance to explore the old buildings and ponds from the “Salt Works”!

After lunch, we repositioned to Kelly Beach, a little farther north, for hikes up an arroyo and some more beachcombing. A very merry way to spend Christmas!
