This morning we watched numerous gray whales at the mouth of Magdalena Bay on our way to Cabo San Lázaro on the Pacific side of Magdalena Island. We went ashore to explore a small estuary where a small commercial fishing camp is located. Many sea birds were resting on the mudflats or in the mangrove forest. We discovered interesting seashells, coyote tracks, and mako shark heads.
National Geographic Venture returned to Magdalena Bay and we went ashore on the opposite side of Magdalena Island to explore the beautiful and appropriately named Sand Dollar Beach. We all had fun jumping on the sand dunes, exploring the ancient shell middens, and stretching our legs crossing the island in search of sand dollars.
What a great day on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula!
