Santa Cruz Island gives us the opportunity to experience very close encounters with Galapagos giant tortoises, and not just with a few, but with literally hundreds. Walking through lush foliage, we find bigger, smaller, female, male, tortoises of all sizes and ages enjoying the abundant vegetation and cooler temperatures of the highlands. That was our afternoon visit.

In the morning we had the opportunity of choosing between different options, such as exploring the National Park and Charles Darwin Station headquarters, or meeting with our artist in residence, Carlyn for sketching life at first hand at the fishermen’s market of Puerto Ayora. Several of our guests enjoyed capturing pelicans, frigates, and even a sea lion, trying to get the leftovers from the market.

In the evening we danced, and laughed and treasured Galapagos melodies, performed by our visiting musicians, EcoArte. It was another lovely day in the Enchanted Archipelago.
