Today we arrived at Santa Cruz Island and the National Geographic Endeavour II anchored in Academy Bay. We went to the Fausto Llerena Breeding Center for Galapagos giant tortoises, and afterwards our guests had the chance to explore the town of Puerto Ayora on their own. Later on, we got onto local buses and drove to a local farm. At this place, our guests learned about how a local farm in Galapagos is operated, and how they produce raw sugar, alcohol, cocoa and coffee using traditional methods.
After lunch, we headed to another farm where we looked for wild Galapagos giant tortoises. We found several tortoises and a couple were mating; most tortoises are at the breeding grounds in the low lands, however some had stayed back and are taking any chance available to mate.
