As we reached the third day of our expedition, we arrived at Santa Cruz Island. Today, we had the opportunity to see giant tortoises and to learn about the lifestyle of the local people of the island.

In the morning, we visited the Giant Tortoise Breeding Center where we talked about the conservation projects for these emblematic creatures as well as learned about the life of the famous tortoise, Lonesome George. We travelled to the highlands of Santa Cruz, and we visited El Trapiche, a local coffee and sugarcane plantation where the owner produces moonshine out of sugar cane. It was quite an interesting experience for our guests! After lunch we visited the reserve where giant tortoises roam calmly and relax throughout the lush vegetation and mud ponds formed by rainwater.
