We are in the central region of the Galapagos Islands. Today we visited Santa Cruz, the second largest of all the islands! Santa Cruz is home to the iconic giant tortoises, where we have a large population that has been part of a restoration program since the early 70s. Today, they rule the landscape, and the population is in good condition, healthy and breeding in the wild.

The focus of our visit today was to learn about the conservation programs carried out by the Galapagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Research Station. We also focused our attention on the geological formations called Los Gemelos, craters that exemplify the volcanic past of the island. We also had the opportunity to learn about and explore the iconic scalesia forest, a type of tree that used to be the largest forest-cover before colonization on the islands.

What an amazing day!
