Today is our first full day exploring the Galapagos Islands. On Santa Cruz, we started our morning visiting the Trapiche farm where we learned the traditional way of making “moon shine” and coffee. Then we headed to the highlands to visit Los Gemelos, a geological formation of two giant sink holes, surrounded by a forest of endemic Escalescia trees.
Lunch was set for us at Manzanillo Ranch, where we had our meal surrounded by giant tortoises foraging in the tall grass. After lunch we did a hike around the area with our naturalists and learned about these iconic Galapagos reptiles.
Later, we visited the Charles Darwin Research Station and then enjoyed some free time exploring the town of Puerto Ayora. We can’t wait to continue this expedition.
