Our first whole day in the Galapagos was amazing. We spent it in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island.
Our first visit was to El Trapiche, a traditional farm where we learned how to prepare and taste moonshine. We also learned the process to making delicious organic coffee, guided by the farm’s owner, one of the early colonizers of Santa Cruz Island. All of this was just the beginning. We took a bus our next spot, The Twins (Los Gemelos), two pit craters located on either side of the road. These impressive formations are surrounded by the endemic Scalesia forest, an endemic tree, family of the daisy flower.
A delicious lunch was waiting for us at another fantastic ranch, El Manzanillo, which is also the perfect spot for finding the incredible Galapagos giant tortoise.
Walking around surrounded by lush green vegetation is even better in the company of gigantic tortoises, who are not afraid of us, and just kept walking and eating while we learned about their natural history.
