Our expedition continues and today we have arrived at Santa Cruz Island located at the center of the archipelago. Santa Cruz Island is the second largest island in the Galapagos, where the National Park Services and the Charles Darwin Research Center have their headquarters. This is also home for the world famous Giant tortoises, one of the highlights of the day.
Today we went searching for Giant tortoises. In the morning we visited the “giant-babies” at the Rearing Center and in the afternoon in their natural environment in the Highlands. We also had the opportunity to visit a local farm to see how they process the sugar cane and coffee, reducing it into melaza and distilling into the base of rum “agua-ardiente.” It was a very big day, sharing this place with wildlife and people has been an eye-opening experience.
We were back onboard for our recap, briefing, dinner and dancing with local musicians. Today was a full fun day and we have now reached the summit of our journey. We have become one with nature and strongly bonded with our new friends, our Galapagos family.
Wish you were here my dear reader.
