Our expedition took place today on the northwestern side of Santiago Island. This area has great geological features as well as an abundant diversity of flora and fauna. All our guests had chances to go kayaking and deep water snorkeling during the day. Nature walks and photo oriented walks were also offered to maximize our experience in the three different National Park sites visited today: Espumilla Beach, Buccaneer’s Cove and Egas Port.
The weather conditions were perfect for all the activities done throughout the day, it could not be better! It was fantastic to visit the island where Charles Darwin stayed nine days exploring and collecting species that inspired him to come out with a revolutionary idea which has changed the way we see the world.
Among all the close encounters with nature of the day, perhaps one of the highlights was to walk to a fur seal colony which lives in a series of caves and grotto-like formations formed when lava flowed into the sea. The grotto was absolutely the best place in the week we have had to watch and photograph Galapagos fur seals.
A wonderful show of warm colors in the sky produced by the sunset created the best opportunities to take pictures of silhouettes as we were making our way back to the ship after an unforgettable day.
