Today we are visiting the island where Darwin spent most of his time during his visit in Galapagos. After a dry landing, some of us went on a pre-breakfast outing to walk through the mangrove forest and explore the arid zone full of incense trees and endemic birds. Others went on a photography walk along the beach. We encountered several young Galapagos hawks and a few mockingbirds along the way.
After breakfast, we snorkeled off the coast of Buccaneer’s Cove, and later on had the opportunity to kayak and go on glass-bottom boat outings. The sea was full of a large variety of underwater wonders, from Galapagos sea lions playing with us, to many schools of fish feeding off the rocky bottom growth.
After lunch, we had an amazing talk on the physiology of diving, and went on a hike to explore Egas Port. Some of us took the opportunity to go snorkeling off the beach and explore some of the rocky reefs offshore. After snorkeling, we explored further into the island, to enjoy the amazing geological formations made out of tuff, and pure basaltic lava. Bird sightings were plentiful throughout the walk, the geology was outstanding and the landscape was just stunning.
