Our days in “Las Encantadas”, as the Spanish called these islands keep bringing us adventures. We woke up near the shore of Santiago or James Island at 6am to walk at Espumilla beach. Blue-footed boobies were plunge diving right next to us, allowing us to photograph all their graceful movements, and a juvenile Galapagos hawk stared at us with curiosity. Kayakers and paddle boarders also took advantage of the early morning, and afterwards we were all ready for a big breakfast back on board.

The day continues with aquatic activities—both snorkeling and glass-bottom boat riding are great opportunities to discover more of the marine life of the Galapagos.

At midday we enjoyed a delicious Mexican lunch with margaritas, and celebrated the birthday of our beloved hotel manager Juan Sebastian. After Sandesh Kadur, our National Geographic videographer, gave us a talk on “The Anatomy of a Movie”.

Playful sea lions were waiting for us in Puerto Egas beach, and the kids especially enjoyed their company. Later on, our naturalists led us on a walk along the intertidal pools of Santiago.

Back on board the National Geographic Endeavour II, the day ends with a BBQ on the observation deck and a musical evening in the lounge with the talent of our naturalists sharing Latin American rhythms.
