Today we visited an island like no other with its contrasting landscapes. Back in the central area of Galapagos archipelago, Santiago Island is one of the most beautiful and interesting islands. Charles Darwin visited the island during his famous Voyage of the Beagle. Guests from National Geographic Endeavour II got started early in the morning with a pre-breakfast walk in the western realm of Santiago Island, a gorgeous beach called Espumilla. There we saw the majestic Galapagos hawk in the mangrove forest.
After a delicious breakfast, we relocated the ship to the next destination, “Caleta Bucanero.” Water activities started with fantastic opportunities to kayak and paddleboard along the coast. Some of us went snorkeling and for tours in the glass-bottom boat. We had time to enjoy the beauty of the sea with all the creatures surrounding us. We found different species of sharks, many colorful fish, and playful sea lions.
After lunch, we navigated towards Puerto Egas, where we offered guests a couple of options: a nature walk along the coast or an afternoon at the beach. Both options were fantastic. Our guests who chose to snorkel from the shore enjoyed a phenomenal time in the water. They swam with lots of tropical fish, sea lions, sea turtles, and sharks. The hike on Puerto Egas was also very beautiful. The site has an interesting human history, and it offers pretty and unique landscapes. We found lots of marine and land iguanas, sea lions, and migratory birds. After an incredible sunset from the boat, we ended another amazing day in this paradise!
