The day started at 6:45 a.m. with a hike in the footsteps of Shackleton.  We retraced the final leg of Shackleton, Worsley and Crean’s famous hike across South Georgia, which was when they finally reached safety after their ordeal on the ice. Shackleton wrote afterwards: "I have no doubt that Providence guided us...I know that during that long and racking march of thirty-six hours over the unnamed mountains and glaciers it seemed to me often that we were four, not three.”

After we finished our hike, National Geographic Orion will make her way southeast to Saint Andrew’s Bay where we will get to the largest king penguin colony on South Georgia.
