We woke up to a beautiful morning in St. Petersburg as National Geographic Orion sailed through the Neva River.  We started off with a drive out to the town of Pushkin where we had an exclusive tour through Catherine’s reconstructed summer palace in all its glory. In the afternoon it was time to step into the world of Carl Fabergé and see some of the 4,000 items on display, including the ones he had been ordered to craft by hand for the Imperial family. After a quick dinner and change of clothes we topped off the day by seeing an unforgettable Russian ballet performance: A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the historic Mariinsky Theatre.
